Fueling Vertica Athletes
At Camp Vertica, we take nutrition seriously, because strong bodies power strong climbers. Every meal is designed to provide balanced energy for full days of climbing, hiking, and outdoor adventure, while keeping food fun and approachable. Campers enjoy a variety of breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks, from hearty oatmeal and protein-packed eggs in the morning to “Stackers” lunch where they can build their own sandwiches with a variety of toppings. If a camper is a picky eater or isn’t sure about a menu item, there’s always a classic PB&J option available.
Dinners are both nutritious and delicious, with options like spaghetti with meat sauce and green beans, Taco Tuesday with chicken or steak and fresh toppings, loaded baked potatoes, chicken kebabs with rice and beans, and make-your-own pizza night with fresh vegetables and cheese. A few campers are assigned as “chefs” for each meal, working under counselor supervision to help prepare food, practice safe cooking techniques, and learn valuable outdoor cooking skills. We accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions carefully, ensuring all campers have safe, nourishing options. With snacks like granola bars, beef sticks, and fresh fruit available throughout the day, athletes stay fueled, energized, and ready for adventure from sunup to sundown.
