Risk Management at Camp Vertica
At Camp Vertica, the health, safety, and well-being of your athletes are our top priorities. We operate small groups with a 1:3 camper-to-staff ratio, and all staff are certified in CPR & First Aid, and climbing safety. At least one staff member will have their Wilderness First Responder Certification. Every activity, from bouldering to hiking and camping, is carefully supervised, with clear procedures in place for emergencies, weather, and health concerns.
All staff undergo background checks, mandatory reporting training, and pre-camp safety drills. Campers sleep in gender-separated tents, and staff maintain on-call supervision overnight. Meals and snacks are prepared with attention to allergies and dietary restrictions, and first aid is always on hand. In the event of an injury or other emergency, staff follow a tiered response plan to ensure prompt care and parent notification, including access to EMS and off-grid communication devices if needed. We also focus on preventative safety: gear is inspected before each activity, campfires and cooking are supervised, and campers are taught safe outdoor practices.
Simply put, Camp Vertica is designed to give campers a safe, fun, and growth-filled outdoor experience while keeping parents informed and reassured every step of the way. If you have any questions please shoot us an email!
