Outdoor Bouldering Stewardship & Meetup for Center 45 Competition Team 10/24/2026

$85.00

Outdoor Bouldering Stewardship & Meetup: Comp Team Edition
Hosted by Center 45 and Camp Vertica
Saturday, October 24th

You’ve put in the time training with the comp team. You know how to move, you know how to fall, and you’ve been wanting to try climbing outside. You just don’t know where to go or how to do it right.

This clinic is your first step outside.

Climbing outside isn’t just harder holds and real rock. The areas we climb in the High Country stay open because climbers take care of them. This clinic teaches both halves: how to boulder outside well, and how to be the kind of climber who keeps access open for everyone else.

Part 1: Stewardship & Access Talk with Aaron Parlier (1 hour, Center 45 back room)
Aaron Parlier will lead the stewardship lesson, covering Leave No Trace, crag etiquette, how access works, and why it can be lost. Then he’ll get specific to Boone: the local areas, the local rules, and what’s expected of climbers here.

Part 2: Outdoor Session (2–3 hours, Blowing Rock)
Then we head out to climb at the Mushroom Boulder and Lower Blowing Rock. Parents will carpool from Center 45 and follow Coach Kiera to the parking lot. We’ll cover spotting, pad placement, reading problems on real rock, and how outdoor movement differs from the gym.

Who it’s for
Center 45 Competition Team members who haven’t bouldered outside yet, or have only been once or twice and want to learn it properly.

The details

  • Date: Saturday, October 24th, 10:30 AM at Center 45

  • Group size: 6 climbers, so spots are limited

  • Requirement: Must be on the Center 45 Competition Team

  • Adult on site: Every climber must be accompanied by a legal guardian or a friend’s parent for the entire clinic. A legal guardian must sign the waiver beforehand, even if a friend’s parent is the one attending.

  • Transportation: Parents drive. We’ll carpool from Center 45 and follow Coach Kiera to the parking lot.

  • Cost: $85 per climber

  • Provided: Crash pads from Camp Vertica. Shoes and chalk available from Center 45 if you need them.

  • Minimum: The session runs with at least 5 sign-ups.

Take it outside.

If you can, please pay by bank transfer (ACH) at checkout. Card fees cost us about $50 per camper, and bank transfers cost about a third of that. That money goes back into gear and coaching.
